Should tech companies be allowed to create 'digital clones' of deceased individuals using their public data for grieving families?

With the rise of generative AI, creating 'digital clones' (griefbots) using a deceased person's social media posts, voice, and video has become a reality. Supporters argue it provides profound psychological comfort to grieving loved ones and extends the digital legacy of the deceased. Opponents raise concerns about violating the deceased's privacy and dignity, as well as causing unhealthy psychological dependency for the living.

其实挺支持的,我外公去世的时候我就想过如果有这种技术就好了。公开数据放着也是放着,能帮活下来的人缓解痛苦不是挺好的吗?

Idk, this feels super invasive. The dead can't consent to their data being used like this, and keeping a simulation around just stops people from actually grieving and moving on.

Idk, this feels super invasive. Using someone's data when they can't consent just to make a creepy chatbot is wrong. We need to learn to let go, not live in denial.

This feels super invasive. Just because someone posted online doesn't mean they wanted to be turned into a bot after death. It’s creepy and probably prevents actual healing anyway.
